Christmas Memories

We had three FABULOUS weeks in Utah and Idaho. It almost felt like we moved home and coming back has felt a little bit weird. It's all good though. We have been welcomed back by our friends in Nauvoo and it's nice to be back in a routine. Here is a list of just some of the great adventures we had on our trek west:

The culmination of the journey was a much-needed trip to Costco on the way home. I have to squeeze that in whenever I get the chance because I don't get it that often. We love you all and we already miss you. Come Visit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Christmas Walk/Stella's First Dance Performance

Every year on the first Saturday of December, Nauvoo hosts a "Christmas Walk". It isn't quite as well-attended as the "Pumpkin Walk" (probably because it's freezing), but it is still really fun. There were all kinds of things to do. Stella and I went to see Santa and then we went on a "tasting tour" of a few hotels in town. They looked so pretty with all their decorations! If I didn't have a house here, there are a few places that I would love to stay. After that, we attended the community Christmas Concert, including Stella's first dance performance. Her group danced to "We Wish You A Merry Christmas". They looked so cute!!! She is having a lot of fun in dance. I recorded it but apparently the file is too big to post here so I guess pictures will suffice. That night, we went to the tree lighting at the visitor's center and then saw a live nativity done by the senior missionaries. It was really cool even with 60 year old Mary and Joseph! There were other things we could have done but Siena wasn't feeling well so we were trying to keep her home as much as possible. Christmas in Nauvoo is awesome! I am glad to be going home though.

Festival of Lights

We went to the Light Parade in Ft. Madison on Friday. It was kind of like a toned down version of the Electric Parade at Disneyland. I was very impressed! It was a great way to kick off the holidays.

We had dinner with some friends here in Nauvoo for Thanksgiving. It wasn't the same as being with family but it was definitely more fun that I expected. We are starting to make some good friends here. We are so thankful for all the blessings we have and for all our family and friends both near and far. (Sounds like a country song but it's true :)

Halloween Party

Our neighbors had an adults only Halloween party the other night. It was so fun to do something like that without our kids! Its been awhile since I have done anything like that. Nick decided what he was going to be about 15 minutes before the party started. He is very good at coming up with good ideas at the last minute. For any of you who may have seen the newly released "Spooky Buddies", he went as "Frankendude" at Stella's request. I am Minnie Mouse in case you can't tell.

Pumpkin Walk

Nauvoo makes a HUGE deal out of Halloween. They have a pumpkin walk where the streets are lined with thousands of carved pumpkins and a parade where everyone in town marches down Mulholland in their costumes. There were at least 2000 people lining the streets...more than I have ever seen at one time. It was so much fun!! This is officially my favorite even in Nauvoo so far. Pageant is a close second.

Chicago

Stella had a day off of school last weekend so we decided to take a trip to Chicago. It's about 4 1/2 hours away. Stella and I took the train into the city to see Mary Poppins!! We had a great time. I'm gonna make a broadway buddy out of her if it's the last thing I do. We also went to the American Girl store and Millenium Park. Such a fun weekend! I hope we get a chance to go back sometime.

We finally got our house put together. We wish we could have our family and friends over to see it. Consider this our virtual housewarming party. I wish that I had taken before pictures. Just imagine your first mission or college apartment, compare it to these pictures and you've got yourself on extreme makeover. I am really happy with how it turned out. This place may just start to feel like home afterall :)

The Pumpkin Patch

Stella has a four day weekend this week and since we can't go to Idaho (insert tears) we decided to do the next best thing and go to Kathy's Pumpkin Patch with our friends from Ft. Madison. It was a pretty cool place!!! There was a giant play area and we got to ride on a wagon out to the field to find our pumpkin. It was kind of unnerving when I went to Walmart today and saw pumpkins for $2.50 but I am sure the experience was worth the price.

I don't usually post anything without pictures but I don't have a journal and I feel like I need to record somewhere what happened today. We were meeting some friends at the park just outside of town. I was parking the car and Stella got a little too excited to see her friend. She unbuckled and opened the door before I got the car stopped. She fell out of the car and landed on her head.  Luckily I got the car stopped in time but her head was about a foot from the back tire. She was able to walk away with nothing more than a headache. I'm pretty sure I lost a couple years off of my life.  I was able to shake it off and go through the rest of my day but now at 2:00 am I can't think about anything else. Being a parent is so scary! There are so many things that can go wrong. Right now its mostly just keeping them from hurting themselves. I don't even want to think about the worry that comes from raising teenagers. I learned a couple of things today though that I hope to carry with me into the future:

#1: We are ALWAYS going to wear seatbelts.   We get a little lazy here in Nauvoo just going around town. Stella is always asking me if we are going "far". Now that I know what can happen in a parking lot, she will be buckled now matter how far it is.

#2:  Heavenly Father has a lot of work for our kids to do.  Nick and I were listening to the history of Wilford Woodruff by Truman G. Madsen on the way to Nauvoo from Utah.  He was talking about all of President Woodruff's near death experiences as a child.  It was crazy! There were at least 25 times when he should have died but he didn't. Heavenly Father preserved him so he could fulfill his earthly mission. We never know when our mission on Earth will end and our Heavenly mission continues but I do believe that today Heavenly Father preserved Stella because she still has things to do here. It made me think about the great challenges and blessings ahead especially for our children. They have so much to face in this life! It is exciting and terrifying at the same time. I need to do more to prepare my children. I need to be stronger in the gospel so that they will have an anchor to rely on. I need to give them a better understanding of who they are and the mission that they have in this life. We need to be more dilligent in our scripture study and our family home evenings.

#3: I need to hug my kids more. This time I have with them is so precious and I am grateful to finally have the chance to be home all day every day and to really enjoy both of my girls. I know that they know I love them and I am sure to tell them all the time, but I need to be careful that my little frustrations throughout the day don't rub off on them. I need to make sure that they know how special they are to me and how blessed I feel to be their mom.

Tomorrow life will go on as normal and I will get back into my routine. I probably won't change that much because of what happened today but I do want to recommit myself to being the best mother that I can be and to remember the "precious cargo" (as Nick's grandma would say) that I am carrying with me. Becoming a mom has been the best thing that has ever happened to me! I hope that I will never take my kids for granted and I that I will do all I can to prepare them for the challenges that lie ahead. I'm so glad Stella is OK and I hope it is a long time before I have to learn any more of these lessons.

The day before we left was really sad for me. It was weird to see our house so empty. We haven't lived anywhere else since we got married. I will really miss living there but I am excited for our new adventure.

We went out with our friends, the Johnsons, just before coming back to Nauvoo. It was so much fun! Stacey introduced us to some mexican food that I wish I had discovered before I was moving across the country. We also went bowling and Nick was his usual crazy self. It was a great time. We will miss them!

We tried to get together with all of our friends while we were out west. I wish we would have had more time. On Wednesday, we had a campfire with the Betts. It rained but we managed to have fun anyway. The girls were so funny together!! I am so grateful to have such good friends.

We did some very fun things while we were in Utah including a trip to Lagoon. Nick and I haven't been there since we got married and neither of my kids have ever been. We all had a great time! Not only did we get to go on rides but we got to hang out with the entire Sanders clan. It was a fun day had by all.

Last week, we had the chance to go to Utah to get our house ready to rent and to load up our stuff to move to Nauvoo. We also had a really fun Sanders family reunion. It was such a great two weeks!! I had a really hard time leaving. I am glad to be back here in Nauvoo, but I am already counting down to my next trip back.

St Louis Zoo

A few weeks ago, we traveled to St. Louis to see the zoo. I was really impressed. The zoo is free and they just charge for parking. It isn't as big as Cincinnati but its probably bigger than the Hogle Zoo. I also liked how easy it was to find out way around. Mostly, I just really enjoyed the trip to Costco afterwards. We will probably go to the zoo again....most likely the next time I run out of toilet paper :)

Swimming In Keokuk

We had one more chance to go swimming before the summer ended for good. We went to the city pool in Keokuk. It is such a great place!! I wish we had discovered it earlier in the summer. Unfortunately, it was also the last time Stella could ever wear her swimming suit. The whole thing ripped in half in the back! Just shows how much of a fish that girl is...

Visit From Grandma and Grandpa

We were lucky enough to have my parents visit us here in Nauvoo for a week at the beginning of August. We had so much fun!!!! We did all the usual tourist stuff in addition to some not so usual stuff. We loved having them here and hope they will come again.

How I Became A Pirate

Before we left Utah, I was able to direct a play at my elementary school with my friend, Gina. It turned out so well! The material was great to start with and the kids made it even better! We had such a great time. I am really going to miss doing those shows. I guess I will have to find some new hobbies.

Siena's Birthday

I know that these posts are all out of sequence but I haven't had my computer all summer and I am trying to get everything on my blog so I will know what to put in our family photobook at the end of the year.

With that explanation, here are a few pictures of Siena's birthday party clear back in May. We had a big to do because we were moving the next week and we wanted to see everyone before we left. It was in my aunt's backyard because our house doesn't even accomodate half that many people. We just had lunch and presents and then everyone hung out. It was so much fun!!! Thanks to my dad, we got some really cute pictures.

Nauvoo Pageant

Earlier this summer, Stella and I were able to participate in the Nauvoo Pageant. It was really fun for us and we learned a lot. We also made some great friends. I highly recommend applying for the pageant if you have older kids and want an awesome summer experience! Stella's favorite part was playing stickball with Joseph.

Mission Trip

Every since we got married, Nick and I have wanted to take a trip to see both of our missions. He served in Michigan and I served in Cincinnati. We decided that this was the summer to do it because Nauvoo is within driving distance. We left early on a Thursday morning and traveled to Cincinnati where we were able to visit with my good friends the Meisters. The next day I was able to have breakfast with Carrie and Bethany, two friends from Ft. Thomas who ended up being my roommates in Provo. In addition to seeing some people, we were able to travel to all my favorite places.

Once we had been to Schneiders, my life was complete and we could move on to Michigan. We spent all of our time there with one family, The Stampers. Nick was able to baptize Cortney on his mission, and he was able to stand in the circle while her daughter was confirmed on this trip. It was really cool. It was great to check this trip off our bucket list!

Stella's First Day of Kdg

It has been a VERY long time since I updated my blog. Mostly due to lack of proximity to the internet. I have many pictures to add but for now, here is the most recent development. Stella started school two days ago! She is in Mrs. Haas kindergarten class and so far she loves it! School in Illinois is very different than Utah, for example they have kdg ALL DAY EVERY DAY. So far I am very impressed with the teacher and the school. I can't believe I have a kindergartner! I am so proud of the girl that she is becoming.

Siena is already standing up! It is freaking me out cuz Stella didn't do anything like that until after she turned one. It is really fun to watch her but it makes life a lot crazier. Stella is learning to read right now. It is so amazing to me to watch her figure out how sounds fit together to make words. As a 5th grade teacher, I don't really get to see how kids learn to read from the beginning stages. Watching Stella almost makes me want to teach kindergarten......then I wake up and remember how much work that would be :). I love being a mom!!!!!

I was able to meet Nick in Chicago for President's Day weekend. It was so fun! I hadn't seen him since Christmas so it was really good to be together again. It was also nice to have some kid-free time. We spent the majority of our trip trying to find our way around town, but by the last day we pretty much had it figured out. If anyone needs a tour guide in Chicago, I'm your girl. I know a few train stops that you should NOT visit. We saw some really cool stuff including the show "Million Dollar Quartet." It was so awesome!! My favorite place we went was the American Girl Store. Poor Nick! At least there was a North Face store nearby. We also went to the Art Institute and saw some really cool paintings including "American Gothic." It was FREEZING in Chicago but we managed to have a great time anyway. Only one more week until we get to see Nick again!

After Springfield, we were able to spend a few days in Nauvoo before going home. It was really fun to be there and to be able to have our family together again. It will be fun to live there all summer. If anyone wants to come visit, feel free!

Grandpa Jack

We lost my Grandpa Sanders a few weeks ago. It was kind of a surprise and we are all still pretty sad about it. He was a great leader for our family and he was an example that we all looked up to. I will miss his sense of humor and colorful stories. Most of all, I will miss the anchor that he was to our family. I hope that he is happy with my grandma. I hope that he knows that we all love him and look forward to seeing him again.

The Land of Lincoln

After we go to St. Louis, Nick took us to Springfield to see the Lincoln Museum. It was so awesome! I was in heaven. I got a lot of good info for my 5th graders and we all had fun seeing the sights. They have restored the entire block surrounding Abraham Lincoln's house and walking down it feels like being transported back in time. I can't wait to go back and see all the stuff we missed!

We were able to take a trip out to Nauvoo to see Nick over fall break. It was so much fun! We flew to St. Louis and spent a day there. I finally got to go to my favorite restaurant from my mission after eight long years. Penn Station is seriously the best!!!

Soccer

I have somewhat painful memories of my childhood soccer team (I got the sweet spirit award :) so I was reluctant to sign Stella up this year, but we have been looking for something she could do for fun and some of the neighbor kids invited her to do it, so we decided to try it. It was pretty entertaining trying to get the kids to run in the right direction, but I think Stella enjoyed it. We really appreciate her coach for all her hard work.

Preschool

Stella started preschool this year at Eagle Valley Elementary. She has been coming there with me her whole life so I don't think it was that big an adjustment. When I dropped her off the first day, she just smiled and walked off like it was the most natural thing in the world. I can't believe time is going so fast. Our little girl is growing up!

SINGLE MOTHERHOOD

EXCITING NEWS: Nick got a job!!!! He was hired by the city of Nauvoo to do a one-year fellowship. He will be helping them write grants, generate revenue, and a bunch of other stuff that I don't even understand. We are so proud of him and excited for this opportunity.

NOT SO EXCITING NEWS: The job has no benefits and since life without insurance isn't so great, especially for someone with the Sanders family blood clot genes, I have to stay here and finish out the school year. I will be working full time and raising two kids on my own. FUN FOR ME!! I'm pretty worried about it but we feel like it's the right thing to do.

I was able to drive out with Nick to Nauvoo last weekend and meet some of the people he will be working with. I also saw the house we will live in next summer when we get to go there. All I can say is.. 261 more days to go!

We were too scared to camp with a month-old baby so we stayed in a hotel for the night, but we still got the camping feel. Thanks to the Difrans for organizing the shindig.

Because everything in our life is up in the air right now, we haven't been able to plan much this summer. I was afraid we would be bored out of our minds but so far we have managed to stay really busy. We have been to Idaho twice and both our families have been here. Its no Disneyworld, but all in all I'd say its been pretty fun.

Deseret Village

We have had our nieces, Morgan and McKenzie, here all week. It has been really fun to have them here with us. Stella loves tagging along with her cousins and they are really nice to let her. Yesterday, we went to Family Fun Day at Deseret Village. There was so much to do! I haven't been there in a very long time but it was a lot bigger than I remember. We had a great time!!

Since 4th of July was on Sunday this year, the celebration lasted all weekend. We went to the Provo parade and I got to go see Carrie Underwood at Stadium of Fire with my cousin Molly. Yeah for America!!!

Stella Is Four!!

Stella had a Minnie Mouse birthday party with all her family to celebrate her 4th birthday. I can't believe she is 4 already!! Before I know it she is going to leave me and go to college. It makes me sad how fast she is growing but I love the little girl that she has become. I have to include a picture of the cake I made cuz I am dang proud of it. It's probably my personal best. I'm no Pedro, but I think I built a pretty nice cake.

Cousins R Fun

My cousin Tara and I have been close friends for our whole lives. We are only a week apart and we both just had babies who are 9 days apart. Our kids love to get together and play and it is so much fun for me to have someone to talk to. We were able to visit her family when we went to Idaho in June and then she came to see us a week later. We had such a good time together! I wish that we lived closer so that we could see each other more often. I guess we will just have to take what we can get.

Storybook Drama

A month ago, we took Stella to drama camp at UVU. The first thought that comes to one's mind when hearing this news is "Why does Stella need drama camp?". It is very true that she has plenty of drama already, but we really wanted to find something fun for her to do this summer. The class was called Storybook Drama and it was perfect! The teacher was amazing. She had such a great time. I highly recommend this camp to anyone who wants a great experience for their child next summer.

Welcome Siena Lee Camberlango

We welcomed the newest addition to our family on Monday, May 10th. We named her Siena after the city in Italy and Lee after my grandpa's dad who passed away when I was three weeks old. Apparently, he was a really good basketball player and we think our little girl is going to take after him with her incredibly long arms and fingers and toes. I was totally expecting her to look different from Stella, but she really looks exactly the same. When we compare pictures, its hard to tell who is who. We are so excited that she is here and grateful to have her in our family.

Nick got his MPA from BYU on Friday. We are so proud of him and glad that he is finally finished! Who knows what the future holds, but we are looking forward to finding out.

We had a party to watch the Academy Awards last week. Kylie, Landon, Josh, Candice, and Wendy came. I tried to cook filet mignon, but it kind of tasted like corned beef. The show was pretty boring, but the party was fun. I'm also posting a picture I took of Stella today. Our neighbor came over and did her hair. I wish I could figure out how to curl it like that. The last picture is of Stella and her cousin Calvin. They are really good friends but they don't get to see each other very much. We got together last weekend. What a cute pair!!

We went on a fun trip to Idaho over Valentine's weekend. My mom planned a whole bunch of stuff for us to celebrate the Olympics. I got a sewing machine for my birthday and decided now was as good a time as any to try to become domestic. My first attempt was a blanket for Stella's baby doll. I FINALLY got my pictures uploaded off my new camera after about three months. I have lots of backed up pictures I could post, but I think I will just try to stay up with the latest. We had an awesome Christmas at Nick's house in Boise. We are actually still here. We got to come for 10 days. It's been really nice and we are grateful to Nick's parents for letting us stay so long. Stella got very spoiled for Christmas. Lots of clothes which she desperately needed and the two ponies, a barbie and a jumprope that she had asked Santa for. We have done a lot of fun things here, but mostly it has been nice to relax and not worry about jobs and school for awhile. We hope everyone had a great holiday!!

We went to see Santa at the mall on Christmas Eve. Apparently Santa was a little tired because he told the girls to get off his lap and get a coloring book.

I know that it has been a VERY long time since I have posted. Stella broke our camera in Florida and we finally got a new one. I still haven't loaded the software onto my computer yet. Thankfully, my sister took some pictures of Stella in her cute pirate costume. She got a lot of use out of it during our very busy Halloween week. We had a party at BYU, a piano party, a school party, a preschool party, and a party at the Difrancescos. It was quite the holiday. I have more pictures to post later, but here are some for the grandparents.

Disneyworld

We had such a fun vacation at Disneyworld with my family!! It was very hard to come home. Stella really liked Splash Mountain and seeing all the characters but she was a little freaked out by the dark and noisy rides. Nick's favorite part was our day at the beach. It was really relaxing and the water was so warm!! I especially liked dinner at a Polynesian restaurant called Ohanas. We got to eat all kinds of Hawaiin food and I learned to hula with Kylie and Stella! We also got to take a boat ride around the lake in front of Magic Kingdom and watch the fireworks. That was really cool. It was so fun just to be there. It's such a positive and fun place to be. I want to go back as soon as possible!!!

Redecorating

Every summer, I try to take advantage of my time off and do a few projects in our house. This summer, we redecorated Stella's room and our downstairs bathroom. It's always nice just to make a few changes to give your house a lift. Stella really likes her room, but wishes we had painted it pink.

We had an awesome 4th of July with Nick's family in Boise. We spent a day on the river with some of Nick's friends and went swimming A LOT. (Pretty much what we have done every day this summer :) Nick's parents had a really fun birthday party for Stella complete with giant blow up birthday cake and princess castle. The weekend came to a marvelous close with a trip to my favorite Mexican restaurant, On The Border. The day that we left, we decided to bring our nieces, Morgan and McKenzie home with us for week. We had an equally fun time while they were with us.

I am finally getting around to posting pictures from Stella's birthday party. Thanks to my sister, I finally have some. We had a garden party this year. We invited some of my friends from college and they all brought their kids. As most of you know I get a little theme crazy. I made a "dirt" cake covered with oreos and cookie flowers on top. We also had a fruit bouquet. We decorated flower pots and planted some flowers in them. All of the kids were younger than Stella so it was more of a mom activity but we still had fun. I'm glad to have such a cute 3 year old around with fun friends for an awesome party!!

Life At The Zoo

We had an awesome birthday party for Stella that I am planning to post about but I am still waiting to steal pictures from my sister. I also want to post our new family pictures but am having trouble uploading them. Anyway.... more to come.
My cousin, Tara came to visit with her two kids last week. We had such a fun time together!! The first day, we went swimming and the second day we went to the zoo. It was so fun hanging out with the kids. I love how places like the zoo become so much more exciting with kids around. Stella and her cousin Calvin got so excited about all the animals!!! I love Tara so much and I wish that we lived closer. I am so glad they came to visit and I hope they come again soon.

California Girls

I was able to go to California with my good friend Emily to see our other friend Kim and her new baby Caleb. We had such a good time!! We both left our kids and husbands at home and had an awesome girls weekend! We didn't even listen to music on the 10 hour drive there because we were talking the whole time. We got to spend one day at the beach and the other day in Hollywood. We happened to be on Hollywood Blvd during the premiere of the movie, "The Hangover", which I will probably never see. One of the stars, Bradley Cooper, used to be on Alias so I was pretty stoked to see him. He came across the street to talk to the crowd. We were in the front, but too far down to get an autograph. It was quite an exciting event for a celebutant like me. Thanks to Kim and Chris for a fabulous trip. We miss you already!! Also thanks to my mom and dad for watching Stella. She had a great time in Idaho.

I just had the most fabulous weekend ever!! My mom and sister and I went to see Wicked at the Capitol Theatre. We got the tickets 6 months ago, so this was a very long-awaited event. Plus I have been wanting to see it for about 4 years now. It was so amazing!! I loved every minute of it. The cast was awesome and the music was incredible. I am already planning my next trip to see it again.

Some Randomness

I really have nothing new to talk about, but I was tired of the last post on my blog being my grandma's funeral. So here are some random pictures from the past week. The first is of Nick and Stella playing around with the mixing bowls. Her latest thing is to get all the dishes out of the cupboard and "cook" with me. I'm so glad Nick is willing to play with her. He's great like that. I am not so patient. The next picture I hesitate to post because Stella has crazy hair, but I decided to anyway. Stella and her friend Isaac were on the couch watching a movie and I just thought they were being cute and took a picture. Stella calls Isaac her "best friend ever". I'm not sure he appreciates all of her "hugs" but at least we know she is nurturing. The last picture is from a talent show we went to for Nick's program at BYU. Stella met this little girl there and they became best buds in the two hours we were there. They were dancing around the whole time as people performed. I should have got it on video but I am not that on the ball. Anyway, someday I will have something exciting to share on my blog, but for now it's just normal everyday life which I am thoroughly enjoying.

Grandma's Funeral

We were able to go to Idaho for my grandma's funeral a few weeks ago. It was sad, but nice to see everyone. This is a picture of my dad's whole family. Stella really liked my cousin's Parker and Emma even though they weren't too sure about her. I think she was a little too friendly for them. I hope it's not a sign of the future :)

St. George

For my birthday, Nick took me on a trip to St. George. It was so nice to be away from the cold for a few days. I wish we could live there in the winter and here in the summer. Maybe someday when we are old.. We had a lot of fun just hanging out shopping and going to movies (stuff we don't really can't do much of with a two-year old). I also tried my hand at go-karts. It was fun, but I think it would be better if I wasn't riding the break the whole time. Nick drove us to a spot where part of "Butch Cassidy" was filmed. We trespassed onto some property and got a really good picture. Thanks to my parents for watching Stella and to Nick for a fabulous vacation.

Grandma Vera

Yesterday my grandma passed away. She was 83. I think that she is better off now than she was living here, but it is still crazy to me to think that she is gone. She only had 5 grandchildren and 2 of them are still under the age of 10. I am the oldest of them. My grandma wasn't the most outgoing person in the world, but she was very talented and always willing to help with anything you asked her to. When I was younger, she took the time to help me sew doll clothes and when I got older, she helped me make a quilt. I loved going to movies with her or hanging out at Perkins where she was a regular for breakfast. I am so grateful that we were able to visit her at Christmas and that she was able to see Stella. I hope that I can remember her quiet dignity and try to emulate it in my life.

Christmas Vacation

We had a fabulous Christmas in Rexburg. It snowed for 4 days straight but it was fine because we didn't have to go anywhere. My whole family was there for almost a whole week. It was so nice to be with them all! We don't get to spend a lot of time all together. We mostly just played games and watched a lot of 80's movies. It was nice to do nothing for awhile before we got back into the swing of things.
On Christmas Eve, Stella saw an animated Santa statue that kind of freaked her out. That night, when we started talking about Santa coming, she got all nervous and started looking around. When I tucked her in, she said, "Mommy, I don't want Santa to come bring me presents." It was kinda sad and funny at the same time. Luckily when she saw her presents she got over it. She finally got her purple snake and a pink tent that she really likes. Thanks to Mom and Dad for putting up with us and to Nick for agreeing to live out of a suitcase for 12 days.

I had to steal this picture from Cortney because my computer cord is at my mom's. This is Stella and her newest cousin, Tegan. Stella had so much fun holding him even though he is about half as tall as her! He was a dinosaur and Stella was a witch. We got to spend Halloween in Boise because Morgan was getting baptized. It was fun to be with everyone. Stella liked Trick-or-Treating but she was got really interested in a sucker and gave up looking for more candy. It will be hard for Stella to give up the witches but I have been trying to get her excited about turkeys so we can move on to our next holiday!

So I just got back from seeing High School Musical 3 with my mom and sister. I know I am slightly immature, but I LOVE it!!! It was really cheesy but in a good way and it is nice to see something clean and fun at the same time. The music was awesome and the coreography was fabulous! I especially liked the dance they did in the junk yard. Anyhow, even though I am a little ashamed of myself, I had to just let the world know that I am a fan.

I hitched a ride to Idaho with my sister last weekend. It was fun to be with my family for a few days. We had lunch with my aunts, cousins, and grandpa to celebrate my Aunt Leilani's birthday and Grandpa's anniversary. I love it when we are able to get together. I wish I could see everyone more often. For those of you who follow Kylie's blog, YES I having been copying her pictures and pasting them onto mine. What can I say? I am lazy.

Witches Night Out

Last Saturday, Stella and I went to Gardner Village with my sister, Kylie to see the witches. Stella has been really into witches this year. Witches and Temples. Go figure. Anyway, we saw a lot of really nice witches there. One of them stamped a glitter pumpkin on her face. She got a witch "light saber" at one of the stores. We had a really good time. Stella got a new cousin last month and we were able to attend his blessing a few weeks ago. We went down to Twin Falls for the blessing. We have been watching our neighbor, Isaac, a few mornings a week while his mom teaches preschool. It has been so fun for Stella to have a friend around. It makes me laugh the way they act together. They follow each other around all day long. Stella's favorite thing to say is "Come on Isaac!" She is a little bossy. I have no idea where she could have got it from. Awhile ago they got into Stella's hair stuff and found these beautiful headbands that they insisted on wearing the entire day. Sorry Nichole for letting your son wear a girly orange headband, but I couldn't resist taking a picture.

10 Years....

I know it's hard to believe because we look so young :), but Nick and I both had our ten year highschool reunions this summer. They were held on back to back weekends so it kept us a little busy, but it was really fun to see all our old friends. Nick's was in Boise, and mine was in Rexburg. Seeing everyone again made me really grateful for long-term, life-long friends, that will always be there no matter where life's experiences take you. I hope to do better at keeping in touch so I don't have to wait 10 more years to see them again!

NASHVILLE

It's been almost a month since we have been home, but I just wanted to put a few pictures up from our trip to Nashville. The Boy Scouts paid for Nick and I to attend a conference in Nashville during the first week of August. It was such a fun trip!! Our friends, Doug and Alicia also got to go. It was fun to have someone to hang out with while Nick was in his meetings. We did some really fun things while we were there. The first night, we went to a movie, which for Nick and I was pretty exciting since we don't get many cinematic opportunites at home with a two year old around. The next day, we went on a riverboat cruise. It was fun to see the city from the boat. That night, Josh Turner performed for all of the scouts. I didn't really know much about him before, but now I am a big fan. He was SO GOOD!!! I spent the next few days laying by the pool and shopping while Nick went to classes. (sucks to be him:). The day before we left, we took a tour of the Hermitage, Andrew Jackson's plantation home. I especially liked that. I got a lot of good information to share with my 5th graders. We spent our anniversary on a plane coming home. All in all, it was an awesome trip. Thanks to the Scouts for footing the bill and thanks to Nick's parents and sister for watching Stella.

1/2 The Family Reunion

Last week we went to Salmon, ID for a family reunion. Nick couldn't come with us and only about half the rest of the family was there, but it was really fun anyway. I forgot my camera, so I had to steal pictures from my sister. We went to a really cool old ghost town on the way. In Salmon, we stayed at a beautiful bed and breakfast. It was way better than I expected. The food was fabulous!! The rest of the group went rafting one day, but Stella and I stayed back and checked out the town. They had an awesome park that Stella really liked. We had a great time with our family.

Stella turned 2 on Sunday, the 6th. We had a Hawaian Princess Party for her. I'm not sure what a Hawaian Princess does exactly but it seemed more fun than just a luau. My family was able to come and we had Hawaian chicken salad for dinner. (I stole the idea from Rumbi) and then we ate a yummy and very cute cake that Shannon Abbott made. Everyone was impressed, Shannon! Thanks for doing it. Stella was very spoiled this year. Her Grandma and Grandpa Camberlango gave her a CD player with some fun church CD's and money for shoes. Grandma and Grandpa Jackson gave her a very fun slide that currently resides in our living room plus some clothes and a book. The Dalleys gave her some fun water toys, bows and notebooks. Josh and Candace gave her an awesome leapster book. Landon and Kylie gave her a purse that she carries around with her wherever she goes. After all that, there wasn't much left for Mom and Dad to give her, so we settled for potty training supplies and an art table. Nick did get Morgan and Mckenzie's old bike fixed up. Stella was pretty excited about it and I am sure she will figure out how to ride it eventually. All in all, the party was a success even with an hour and a half intermission for Stella to take a nap. We love our little girl and are so happy she is in our family!

WE'RE BACK!!!!

After almost a month of traveling all over the place, we finally have a couple weeks at home. As soon as school got out, Stella and I went on a fun vacation to Las Vegas with my parents. As soon as we got back, Nick had surgery and the day he got better, I went to Park City for work. The day I got back, Nick went to camp and the day he got back, we both went to Idaho. The day we got back from that, Nick's sister, Kelli, and nieces, McKenzie and Morgan came to play for a week and we all went to a wedding for Nick's cousin, Brittany. We also got to see Nick's parents the day after they got home from Italy. The day after the wedding, we spent a weekend in Pleasant Grove babysitting for some friends while they were in Finland. We got home from that on Monday and had a few days before my parents arrived for the 4th of July. Nick and I ran the Freedom Run with my friend, Alisha, and then we went to my Aunt Moana's house for fireworks. We spent the rest of the weekend with my family including a Hawaian Princess party for Stella's 2nd birthday. Whew!!!! Thank goodness for a couple week of downtime before it all starts back up again with a family reunion, a trip to Nashville and 2 class reunions. All that and school starts on August 18th. What happened to those lazy days of summer? Oh well, I love being busy and doing things with our families so what more could I ask for? These pictures are from Brittany's wedding. I know that Stella is making a funny face, but I think it's cute.

Nick was recently accepted into the EMPA program at BYU. He starts classes in the fall. We are so proud of him and excited for this new opportunity.

We cleaned out our garage last week (yeah!!!) and I organized all of Stella's old clothes. I couldn't believe how many there were when I put them all together! When I got it all boxed up, it took six full size plastic tubs. All this and she hasn't even reached her second birthday! Thanks to grandmas and aunts or keeping her wardrobe fully stocked.

This is what our garage looks like now. I know it is hard to tell, but it is so clean!! You can actually walk on either side of the car without turning sideways. Thanks Nick for doing such a good job!

I wish that it would just get warm already. This time of year, I always start telling Nick to look for jobs in St. George or Arizona. I usually get over it around July though. For Easter, we went on a trip to Jackson with my family. It was fun but it felt more like Christmas than Easter. There was still snow everywhere. We went swimming at the Jackson Rec Center. It has a really fun slide that makes me laugh every time I go down it. It's really fast. (I know, I sound like a 5th grader) Stella had more fun than she has ever had swimming with us. She also had a lot of fun with the Easter Egg hunt but I couldn't get any good pictures of that because she was running to fast. Thanks mom and dad for a really fun trip.

So I am supposed to write 10 interesting things about me. Unfortunately, I have such a big mouth that everyone already knows everything about me. When I was in high school and we played truth or dare, no one ever picked me for truth because they knew I wouldn’t have any new information to share. With that in mind, I will try to divulge a few things that haven’t already been spilled. (PS: The truth or dare things counts as #1)

#2: I was born in the same month and same year as two of my cousins. We all got married within a year and had babies within a year. We have always been really close.

#3: This summer my mom and sister and I went to a rally where we met Mitt Romney. He actually picked up Stella and held her for a minute. She didn’t like it much which is why you can only see the top of her head in the picture.

#4: Lately, I have really been into cooking and hiding healthy stuff in my food. It all started last year when I joined weight watchers to lose some baby fat. Then I got the book “Deceptively Delicious” by Jessica Seinfeld. I love trying new stuff and just experimenting. Today I made meatloaf with carrots in it and twice baked potatoes with cauliflower.

#5: When I was at Ricks College, I wrote the theme song for women’s week two years in a row. The first song was called, “Be Loyal To The Royal Within You”. The second was called “Faith In The Future”. I made CDs and sold them in the bookstore. I made about $300 which at the time was incredibly exciting! I have had some really cool experiences with the songs in the many years since my Ricks days.

#6: I am obsessed with all things Hollywood and I remember everything I ever see or read. I can spot people in movies and TV shows and connect them to everything else that they have ever been in. I wish that I could put my brain to better use but….

#7: When I was twenty I back-packed through Europe with another girl and two guys. We went to 8 countries in 3 weeks. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life, but I will probably never do it again. Next time I go to Europe, I want to do it a little more high class.

#8: When I was a kid, I wanted to be a Broadway star. I knew all of the songs to every musical available. I especially love Phantom of the Opera, but I couldn’t listen to the soundtrack by myself because it scared me. My upstairs bathroom is decorated with all the Broadway stuff I have collected over the years. (I know the bathroom is a random place for Broadway, but if you have seen how small my house is, you will understand why I had to put it there.

#9: I was born six weeks premature. I was due on Valentine’s Day but I was born on December 27th. My parents were visiting their parents at the time so I was born 5 hours away from home. I was blessed in a dress that my mom had on a porcelain doll. We blessed Stella in the same dress.

#10: I lived in South Dakota when I was in 4th and 5th grade. I don’t know how interesting that is, but I don’t know a lot of people who have lived there so I guess that makes me different. I loved it there. If anyone is looking for a great vacation. It is a fun place to go.

Our friends Kim and Chris were nice enough to let us stay with them for a few days so we could get out of the cold. Minus Stella getting sick, we had a fabulous time!! The weather was gorgeous!!
Our favorite part was going to the shark reef at Mandalay Bay. They had some pretty cool fish there.

10 Things I Love About You

So.... if you know me, you might know that I can sometimes be a bit of a complainer. I have been thinking lately that I don't spend enough time talking about all the wonderful things in my life---Especially my marvelous husband, Nick. Since Valentine's Day is coming up, I thought it would be a good idea to share the top 10 things I love about him. Here it goes:

#1: Nick is about the funniest person I have ever met. He never lets me stay mad at him for more than 10 minutes because somehow he gets me to laugh.

#2: He is an incredibly attentive to our daughter. I'm so glad Stella has a dad who adores her and never gets tired of playing with her.

#3: He has a lot of integrity. I can always trust him to be honest and do the right thing, especially in his work.

#4: He has really good hair. I am hoping our kids get his hair but I can't figure out yet if Stella is going to be that lucky.

#5: He knows how to have fun. Whenever we have time, he is willing to go out with me and do lots of different things.

#6: He is a good dresser. Nick always chooses clothes that look good on him and I trust him more than anyone to give me advice on what looks good.

#7: He has a strong testimony. He is one of those people that doesn't spend as much time talking about the gospel as he does living it. He is a very good example to me.

#8: He is athletic. I am hoping that our kids get some coordination from him because they don't have a chance with my genes.

#9: He is mellow. Our relationship works very well because my emotions are always all over the place and Nick is always pretty much on the same plain. He makes me feel very safe.

#10: He has a strong personality. Nick is definitely that guy that knows what he wants and isn't willing to put up with less.

There you go. Nick is probably going to kill me for sharing all this, but I just wanted to let all my cyber friend know that I really appreciate my husband and feel lucky to be married to him. If anyone else wants to dish on their husbands, I would love to read about it. Happy Valentine's Day!!!!

Rock Star Party

Our neighbors had a girls party the other day. Everyone dressed up as rock stars and we had a guitar hero tournament. PS-- guitar hero is a lot more fun than I thought. I wasn't quite sure how to make myself pass for a rock star but I did my best. Stella decided to dress up too. She put every bow she owns in her hair. I'm not sure how the fashion police would rate either one of us, but we were both pretty proud of ourselves.

So I know Christmas is over but.....

I just loaded these pictures onto my computer and found this adorable one of my cute elementary kids who performed in "A Christmas Carol". Some of you know that I recently lived out my dream making my directorial debut at Eagle Valley Elementary. The kids did a marvelous job!!! I was so impressed by their hard work and can't wait for next year!

This picture is old, but I just like it so I wanted it posted. We went to Moab in September and Stella was playing in the dirt. She liked putting her hands in it, but when we tried to take her shoes off and let her run around in it, she got scared. Crazy kid!!!
